Southwood Landscape & Nursery opened its doors in the spring of 1983 at the corner of 71 st Street and Riverside Drive in Tulsa, Oklahoma. What began as a small landscape design firm has grown into one of Oklahoma's largest retail garden centers as well as a full-service landscape design company.

The company moved to its present location at 91 st Street and Lewis Avenue in 1985. As the surrounding area of Jenks/Southwest Tulsa grew, so did the nursery. In 1999, the city extended Riverside Drive and relocated Lewis Avenue. Simultaneously, a state-of-the-art, 25,000 square foot retail greenhouse was built at Southwood.

With the construction, the company expanded its ability to offer tropical and indoor plants, such as orchids. Outside the greenhouse, wide, inviting sidewalks offer shoppers a pleasant stroll through the grounds. Younger visitors enjoy pedaling red and blue tricycles around the displays.

Plant selection at Southwood increases every year, so gardeners can find all of their old favorites as well as the newest varieties. In 2002, Southwood expanded again, with the addition of growing facilities on South Delaware Ave. The nursery now grows many of its own products­—such as pansies, roses, mums, and summer annuals—using Southwood's special potting mix and fertilizers to improve plant quality and size.

Southwood is a family-run operation, headed by native Tulsans Joe and Ginny Schulte. Nine employees have degrees in horticulture, including four with master's degrees.
